Math classes are using a self-paced curriculum this year. Students will be given pre-tests at the beginning of each unit to determine their current level of understanding. Students will then be partnered up to complete the remainder of the tasks. They will have access to videos on EdPuzzle to help them through the tasks in addition to teacher assistance.
The topics your child will encounter this year are:
- Arithmetic Operations Including Dividing by a Fraction
- Ratios and Unit Rates
- Rational Numbers
- Expressions and Equations
- Area, Surface Area, and Volume
- Statistics
For math, students will be using EdPuzzle to watch all their math instructional videos. Some of the videos are made by their teachers and others are used from different sources. While the students are watching the video, they will be stopped periodically to answer a “quiz” question. In order to pass each video, the students need to score a 67% or higher before they can move on to their task on Schoology.
In our math classes, we use Schoology on a daily basis. In Schoology, the students have access to:
- Math calendar with due dates and upcoming events
- All copies of their tasks
- Videos/Explanations to help them through their tasks
- A “Student Progress” spreadsheet to show the students what task they are currently on and if they have passed tasks or need to correct it the next day in class.
